Wolvey School

This is a fast 25-mile route with a mix of country and A road. We’ve excellent facilities with the HQ located at Wolvey CofE Primary School, Bulkington Road, Wolvey, LE10 3LA with access to parking, refreshments and toilets. The 4up’s chosen charity for 2024 was the local Air Ambulance. Leics and Rutland Air Ambulance provide an essential service attending emergencies quickly, especially those in remote areas. £500.00 was raised on the day.

Welcome:

Thanks for registering for the Hinckley Cycle Race Club 4-Up Team Time trial, 30th June 2024. I hope that we can provide an excellent race on our course and raise money for charity at the same time. Please see below for key information for the day.

HQ: 

The Wolvey C of E Primary school kindly agreed to the use of its sports hall for this event. Upon arriving you will pass through the staff parking area and then park on the school playground (tarmac). Our sign-on is in the main hall, please be always respectful of the school facilities. Toilets and refreshments facilities are available for our use.

Safety: 

The course has been subject to a risk assessment to proceed in relative safety (as has the school) but please remember that you are responsible for your own safety at all times, especially at road junctions during the event. Ride courteously and safely in accordance with the highway code. Marshals are there to draw the attention of other road users to the event, and cannot take responsibility for your road craft.

08:15 Rider Sign-on, 8:10 volunteer briefing, 08:40 Rider Q&A, 9:30 First team start (four minute line-up time and countdown to leave at 9:34am).

Start location:

The start point is 2 miles from Wolvey school, riders can wait in a layby close to the start line. When waiting please keep within the layby for your safety.

  • Turn Right out of the school, 
  • Bear Left at the double mini-roundabout (B4109 towards Hinckley)
  • Keep Right at the bottom of the hill (Leicester Road)
  • 3rd Exit onto B4114 (Smockington lane)
  • Proceed 0.5 miles to the start point.
  • Wait in layby.

Finish Point: 

You will pass the finish point three times on your time trial (1st lap, 2nd lap and your finishing sprint). Please call your number to the timekeeper as you pass at the end of your race. For your safety, please do not turn in the road – instead continue a short way until a small turning on your left where you can turn safely and return to HQ.

Results and Awards:

The results will be displayed for all to see at the school hall after all riders & timesheet returns to the HQ. Please be free to rest-up at our HQ until that time, with refreshments available in aid of our chosen charity. An award will be made for each category with photos taken of the teams with a prize cup. To maximise funds to the charity, certificates will replace medals/trophies and winning teams will have a photo opportunity at a small presentation.

Refreshments:

HCRC volunteers will provide a selection of refreshments at the race HQ in return for donations (payment by Card or Cash); proceeds going to charity. The cakes are courtesy of Jo, so we have the similar AMAZING CAKES as last year.

Volunteers:

This Time Trial is only possible due to the support of the circa 15  volunteers required to enable it to run safely. Please be conscious these volunteers are giving their time freely to cheer you on towards your PB and give them a smile when you see them.

Photographs: Alan & Ann Kitching will be taking photographs throughout the event and will be sharing on social media and the press afterwards. If you do not wish to be photographed on the course, please mark the sign-on sheet accordingly.

Charity:

This event is running in support of https://theairambulanceservice.org.uk/ . Our local Air Ambulance does not receive government funding, it operates as a charity and relies entirely upon voluntary donations.

Hinckley Cycle Race Club:

Hinckley Cycle Race Club offer a range of activities for local cyclists including Time Trials, Social Rides, Junior Rides & Social Evening Events etc. New members are warmly welcomed, we encourage all members to help-out at the club – the club is run by the members, for the members.
